I love creating functional pottery. It brings me joy to think of someone using my pottery in their home. When I interact with handmade pottery, I’m reminded that there is more to the pots than their solid state; they represent a series of creative decisions that bring the pieces to life.
I use a soda kiln for the firing process, where a solution of soda ash and water is sprayed into the kiln around 2300 degrees F. The soda ash is attracted to the flint in the clay body. This creates a glaze on the surface of the pots, enhancing the clay’s natural beauty and embellishing the techniques used, such as slip decoration.
The process of making pottery generates new ideas, keeping me inspired to learn and grow in this field. I like to think that the finished pot for me is just the beginning of its journey with you. I hope you enjoy using my pottery.
