Deb McCunn
Bellingham, WA
Picture
Deb McCunn is a ceramic artist focused on using ancient techniques to explore contemporary ideas.  Deb teaches and creates a wide range of ceramic art at her studio.

Horse hair pots are created from a combination of ancient methods and contemporary techniques.  The pots are heated to 1,500°, removed from a raku kiln and the hair is wrapped around the pot where it is carbonized into a design.  This leaves only 60 to 90 seconds to work with the horse hair before the pot is too cool.  If there is a slight breeze, you can see the direction the wind was blowing at that moment in time by looking at the smoke patterns on each pot.  Some of these pots have a splash of glaze for an accent.

Due to the extensive and fluctuating nature of our inventory, it's impossible for us to keep our website completely up-to-date with all of our one-of-a-kind handmade wares.  BUT, if you see something you like, give us a call or send us an email and we will send you pictures of currently available items by that artist.
